What to Expect at Your First Appointment
What to bring
Bring your referral letter, Medicare card, private health insurance card, a list of current medications, and any recent test results — including visual field printouts, OCT scans, corneal topography, or previous operative reports if you have had eye surgery before.
The examination
Your appointment includes a full ophthalmic examination: visual acuity, refraction, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, intraocular pressure measurement, and dilated fundus examination. Additional investigations such as OCT, corneal topography, or biometry may be performed at the same visit. Allow 60–90 minutes including dilation time.
Your treatment plan
Dr MacIntyre will discuss your findings, explain your options, and outline a recommended treatment plan. If surgery is indicated, the team will discuss scheduling, hospital admission, costs, and consent with you before you leave. You are welcome to bring a family member or support person to your consultation.
