Dr Ross MacIntyre is a consultant ophthalmologist (eye specialist and surgeon) with subspecialty expertise in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery. He also practices comprehensive ophthalmology, offering treatments for glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration including laser and intravitreal injections. He works in private practice in Armadale, Bundoora and Wonthaggi while also holding public appointments at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) and the Alfred Hospital.  

Dr MacIntyre completed his Bachelor or Arts degree in chemistry (with honours) at Colgate University in New York and his Doctor of Medicine (with honours) at New York Medical College.  After a transitional internship at Columbia University in New York City he completed his registrar training in ophthalmology at Brown University in Rhode Island. He served as chief resident during his final year at Brown University and won the William G. Tsiaras Research Award for best research project as a registrar.

Dr MacIntyre subsequently undertook subspecialty fellowship training in cornea, complex cataracts, and refractive surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he was honoured with the Henry D. Jampel Research Grant Award.  He pursued further specialty training as a cornea fellow at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne.  He publishes articles in the medical literature and is an invited lecturer at both international and local scientific meetings.

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, an invited member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honour Medical Society in the United States, and a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.  He maintains a license to practice medicine and ophthalmology in both Australia and the United States.  He recently received the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s International Scholar Award for his continuing commitment to lifelong learning.
