Eye Care in Bundoora and Wonthaggi: How It Works

Where to book, where surgery takes place, and how referrals and follow-up work across my two locations.

I see patients at two locations: Northern Eye Consultants in Bundoora, and Bass Coast Eye Centre in Wonthaggi. This page explains how the two fit together, so you know where to book, where surgery takes place, and how referrals and follow-up work.

Which location should I see?

You can be assessed at either location. Bundoora suits patients in Melbourne's northern suburbs, and Wonthaggi suits patients in the Bass Coast, South Gippsland and Gippsland regions. I accept referrals at both locations for cataract, corneal conditions, glaucoma, medical retina and refractive surgery.

Where does surgery take place?

Private surgery is performed at Northpark Private Hospital in Bundoora. Public cataract surgery and pterygium surgery are performed at Wonthaggi Hospital. Assessments and post-operative reviews for Wonthaggi patients take place at Bass Coast Eye Centre, where intravitreal injections, retinal laser and glaucoma laser are also available.

How do I book at each location?

Please bring a referral from your GP or optometrist to either location. For Bundoora, appointments are arranged through Northern Eye Consultants on (03) 9466 8822 or through its contact page. For Wonthaggi, phone Bass Coast Eye Centre on (03) 5672 4300 and ask your referrer to address the letter to Dr Ross MacIntyre.

What about follow-up care?

Follow-up is usually at the location where you were first assessed, so your reviews stay close to home. A Wonthaggi patient who has private surgery at Northpark Private Hospital can still have assessments and reviews at Bass Coast Eye Centre.

What is the Cornea Unit at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital?

The Cornea Unit at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is a tertiary referral centre for complex conditions of the cornea. I hold a public appointment in the Cornea Unit, where I see patients with conditions such as keratoconus and those needing corneal transplantation. I also accept referrals for corneal conditions at both Bundoora and Wonthaggi.
